Both EMDR and Talk Therapy have much to offer clients. “But how can I choose?” You don’t have to! I enjoy using them both. When used together, the combination can be very effective, offering you a robust, multi-faceted approach to better understanding and untangling your challenges.
Talk therapy allows us to co-explore. There’s a really cool give-and-take, back-and-forth that happens between us (client and me), and through this back-and-forth we can discover, uncover, and clarify the factors underlying your current challenges.
Sometimes we run into some kind of Big Issue. Maybe it’s a past event or experience that continues to reverberate and affect you years later. Maybe it feels edgy to think about or talk about. This is where EMDR can come in (EMDR going, “My time to shine!”). EMDR offers a “container” of sorts – a dedicated “space” (I mean a mental or psychological space) to explore charged material (memories, beliefs, experiences). A way of focusing on the material that can help clients unpack and work through those Big Issues.
So as we work together, we determine what feels right for you, and at what pace. Talk therapy, EMDR, as well as including your Somatic experience and your Emotions. Lots of different tools to use as needed!
