About Jonna

My approach to therapy is Person-Centered, Psychodynamic, Trauma Informed, and Emotion- and Somatic-focused. I also offer Expressive Play as a non-traditional approach to self-discovery and creative flow.

I practice compassionate and intuitive listening combined with focused inquiry to help you gain new perspectives. I stay aware of your individual cultural, historical, and gender identities.

I am a former writer and performer. I’ve experienced depression, anxiety, deep rage, and grief. I’ve had losses, been through cancer, and am a sexual abuse survivor. I fell in love with therapy through my own journey, and I feel honored to help hold open the door for others to come to peace and self-understanding.

I have a cozy, quiet office in a Pasadena bungalow, close to Arroyo Whole Foods. There’s plenty of free street parking, a comfy waiting room, and tea.

More details about my approach

Person-Centered – A non-authoritative approach. I believe you are the expert about your own experiences and needs, and my role is to guide and support your process of self-discovery, helping you gain confidence and a stronger sense of identity.

Psychodynamic – Invites in-depth exploration of the experiences that have shaped you. Often this includes early childhood experiences and your family’s dynamics.

Trauma Informed – I recognize that you may have had some painful, overwhelming experiences recently or in the past. I work in gentleness to help you meet what might be hard to look at, staying aware of your individual needs, perspectives, and pace. No rush.

Emotion-Focused – I believe that our emotions are important signals about our needs. I support you in identifying and feeling your feelings as a way of processing challenging experiences and developing authenticity and connection in your relationships.

Somatic-Focused – Our mind/body connection can be a powerful tool for self-discovery. I pay attention to your physical signals and invite you to notice any physical responses you may have as you talk about your challenges. We may incorporate deep breathing, relaxation techniques, or guided meditation, harnessing your body’s powerful instincts for healing.

Expressive Play – Creativity can allow us to access complex emotions in a new way. Expressive Play uses movement, voice, and sharing games to release and self-discover. Absolutely no creative experience necessary; just your willingness to try and my attentive guidance.
