A Quick Exercise to Help You Get Through the Holidays (And Other Stressful Moments)

OMG the Holidays! Our nervous system is on high alert! The disruption of our regular routine, prolonged contact with people who are challenging for us, the stress of ‘celebrating.’ It’s all too much! Here’s a lil sumpn sumpn that can help you get through the most stressful moments.

Team up with your nervous system to take mini-breaks throughout the day. Here’s a great one I love, adapted from Sean Fargo’s mindfulness exercises, a great resource:

1. Lower your shoulders.

2. Remove your tongue from the roof of your mouth (I like to open my mouth and let me tongue hang).

3. Let your eyelids drop a little, if they want.

4. Have a long exhale.

5. Do a small, half-smile, as if there’s a secret that you know.

This is letting your body remember its natural relaxation. This is giving your nervous system a little rest, giving it a little hug.

You’re doing great.

Love, Jonna
